The Best Deburring Wheels for Metal
Our deburring wheels are also known as convolute wheels and we believe our range are the best deburring wheels for metal. These deburring wheels are excellent for finishing and cleaning up all metals.
What are these metal finishing wheels made from?
The wheels are made of non-woven abrasive material bonded in a dense, layered structure. They are made from nylon fibres impregnated with abrasive grains with a resin bond. They are each made up of different grits. The most popular being silicon carbide but they are also available in aluminium oxide. These are excellent for deburring and cleaning they also leave a very smooth slightly sateen finish.
What are the main applications when using convolute wheels?
- Ideal for removing medium to heavy burrs.
- These wheels can be used for getting rid of parting lines from casting and forging.
- A key product for deburring Stainless Steel, machined edges or smooth machine lines.
- These convolute wheels are best for achieving a smooth radius on stamped or laser parts.
- A great option for polishing welds.
Why use convolute wheels for deburring?
Convolute wheels are commonly used for deburring because they offer a controlled, consistent, and uniform finish while being gentle on the workpiece.
Below we list the benefits of using deburring/ convolute wheels for deburring:
1. Controlled Cutting Action
The material that the deburring wheels are made from allows for consistent material removal without excessive stock loss, preserving part dimensions.
2. Uniform & Predictable Finish
Unlike conventional grinding wheels, convolute wheels produce a smooth, blended surface without deep scratches. Ideal for parts requiring a fine finish or preparation for coating.
3. Reduced Heat Buildup
The open, non-woven structure promotes cooler running, minimizing the risk of thermal damage, warping, or discoloration of the workpiece.
4. Longevity & Durability
They last longer than traditional abrasives because of their self-renewing structure, exposing fresh abrasive grains as the wheel wears down.
5. Versatility
Suitable for deburring all external surfaces and intricate parts on metals like stainless steel, aluminium, and even composites.
Can be used for light edge radiusing, oxide removal, and surface conditioning.
6. Reduced Operator Fatigue
These wheels generate less vibration and noise, making them more comfortable for extended use.
How to use deburring/ convolute wheels
We recommend that you use deburring and convolute wheels on a bench polisher/ grinder. We sell a variety of bench grinders that we have tried and tested with these non-woven abrasive wheels for finishing. Our wheels can be used on a bench polisher with a nut and bolt system where you just fix it into place. Or we can add a felt insert into your deburring wheel to make it useable on a pigtail taper.
Why the Moleroda wheels are the best deburring wheels in the business
Deburring wheels are a general and popular choice in toolrooms.
Ours are the best because we have quality tested them here at Moleroda and they stand up against any other wheel on the market. But the difference is the price.
Our 9SF wheels are only £29.00 + vat. 3Ms equivalent is approx £70.00 so that is a saving of 57%.
Also, as mentioned we can add a felt centre hole to your wheel to make your convolute wheel super easy to use on a pigtail taper.
