What are Roloc Discs?
Surface Conditioning Roloc Discs are an abrasive-filled product that makes deburring, blending, finishing, polishing, and cleaning surfaces easier than ever before. It has been designed to deliver high-quality finish and performance, but with the advantage of a safer operating environment.
Benefits
- Tough non-woven disc aggressively deburrs and finishes
- Conformable, non-woven disc combined with Roloc backing allows for aggressive cutting
- Open-web construction resists loading and runs cool, allowing for consistent finishes
- Convenient Roloc attachment system offers quick and easy disc change-out for multi-step finishing processes
What is surface conditioning?
The Surface finish is the nature of a surface as defined by the three characteristics of lay, surface roughness, and waviness. It comprises the small, local deviations of a surface from the perfectly flat ideal (a true plane).
Surface texture is one of the important factors that control friction and transfer layer formation during sliding. Surface textures can be isotropic or anisotropic. Sometimes, stick-slip friction phenomena can be observed during sliding, depending on surface texture.
Each manufacturing process (such as the many kinds of machining) produces a surface texture. The process is usually optimized to ensure that the resulting texture is usable. If necessary, an additional process will be added to modify the initial texture. The latter process may be grinding (abrasive cutting), polishing, lapping, abrasive blasting, honing, electrical discharge machining (EDM), milling, lithography, industrial etching/chemical milling, laser texturing, or other processes.
What to use these discs for?
Use Surface Conditioning Roloc Discs for blending, deburring, and finishing. These discs use fast cutting aluminium oxide mineral abrasive, and are made of a fibre that conforms well to help preserve irregular or contoured surfaces, combined with efficient Roloc quick-change attachment system, to support the disc during aggressive cutting and offers quick and easy change outs.
The fibre of the discs runs cool and resists loading and reduces the risk of part discolouration and warping. The aluminium oxide abrasives cut fast and give consistent finishing. Tough and durable, aluminium oxide abrasive continually self-fractures during use, to expose fresh cutting edges.
