What is Zirconium Oxide?
Abrasive Zirconium Oxide Flap discs are made up of Zirconium oxide (ZrO2). It is a highly refractory ceramic material that is used in a wide range of applications due to its excellent physical and chemical properties. It is a white, odourless, and crystalline solid that occurs naturally as the mineral baddeleyite. Zirconia is often used as a replacement for alumina (Al2O3) in high-temperature applications because of its superior thermal stability and mechanical strength.
Zirconia has several unique properties that make it a popular material in many industries. It has a high melting point (about 2700°C), excellent corrosion resistance, and is an electrical insulator. Additionally, it has a high fracture toughness, making it highly resistant to cracks and fractures. Because of these properties, zirconia is used in a variety of applications, including dental implants, cutting tools, electrical components, and as a thermal barrier coating in gas turbine engines.
Use with an angle grinder
An angle grinder is a versatile handheld power tool that can be used for various purposes, such as:
- Cutting: An angle grinder equipped with a cutting wheel or blade can be used to cut through a variety of materials, including metal, tile, concrete, and masonry.
- Grinding: Angle grinders can also be used to grind down and smooth rough or uneven surfaces, such as welds, rust, or sharp edges.
- Polishing: With the right attachment or wheel, angle grinders can also be used for polishing and buffing surfaces, including metal, stone, and concrete.
- Sharpening: Some models of angle grinders come with sharpening attachments that allow you to sharpen tools and blades, such as lawnmower blades, axes, and knives.
- Removing paint or rust: An angle grinder can be used to remove paint, rust, or other coatings from surfaces, preparing them for painting or refinishing.
Overall, an angle grinder is a versatile tool that can be used in various applications and while using these Abrasive Zirconium Oxide Flap discs you will be sure to get your desired finish in a fast, effective time.
