What is Zirconium Oxide?

Abrasive Zirconium Oxide Flap discs are made up of Zirconium oxide (ZrO2). It is a highly refractory ceramic material that is used in a wide range of applications due to its excellent physical and chemical properties. It is a white, odourless, and crystalline solid that occurs naturally as the mineral baddeleyite. Zirconia is often used as a replacement for alumina (Al2O3) in high-temperature applications because of its superior thermal stability and mechanical strength.

Zirconia has several unique properties that make it a popular material in many industries. It has a high melting point (about 2700°C), excellent corrosion resistance, and is an electrical insulator.
