Large 3M Radial Discs
Large 3M Radial Discs in 50mm and 75mm diameter. These sizes are particularly popular used with a foredom bench lathe.
Discs are helpfully colour coded to identify grit. The grits as follows are in order of use:
80g – (Yellow) Coarse for scratch removal, very good for firescale removal on silver. Leaves a satin finish.
220g- (Red) Medium for scratch removal
400g- (Blue) Fine for prepolishing
Pumice- (Pink) For very light scratch removal and deburring. Good for threads.
6 Micron- (Peach/Orange) Gloss finishing
1 Micron- (Light Green) High Gloss finishing, leaves an excellent polished finish
The wheels work with no compound to work from cut to polish even on hard metals. Suitable for polishing items which cannot be polished with compound containing animal fats or where items are not easily cleaned after polishing.
Used for:
For Jewellers
3M radial wheels are popular in the jewellery trade because they are particularly good at detailed polishing. However they are not restricted to precious metal, they’ll even work on wood. Radial wheels work on all metals and much like bristle wheels won’t lose the definition and crisp edges.
These sizes need to be used as a brush on a bench polisher. Select the plastic screw taper for mounting the wheels on a taper pigtail.
For Engineers
Useful where compound is not suitable, therefore they are very popular in the dental or medical trades and where items need to be kept clean. The brush format of these wheels makes them really handy for getting into threads and slots. The plastic legs are relatively hard wearing but work better in larger number to improve their strength.
Used with: 50mm & 75mm Radials are used with either a mandrel or centre busch as per the mandrel options. The MM506 Mandrel features a reverse thread to ensure the mandrel does not loosen. This mandrel has a 6mm shank suitable for some air tools, drills, micromotors, flexshafts that take a 6mm spindle.
The plastic centre busch allows for several laps to be put together to form a brush for a polishing motor. The centre bush features a tapered bore to suit tapered pigtails. Both options are reusable, simply replace the radial laps when worn.
