How to use the Bench Grinder Metal Preparation and Polishing Kit:
-
Surface Preparation and Cleaning
- To prepare and clean your surface before polishing we recommend using RODA NyMops – These abrasive nylon wheels do not require any compound, they are embedded with grit and breakdown with use.
- We recommend working through the grades from coarse to fine for best results.
- If you’re using a standard drill, mount the Tapered Mandrel onto your tool.
- Start by using the Brown RODA NyMop to clean, de-rust, deburr and smooth edges. Fit the NyMop firmly onto the taper and work evenly over the surface – keep moving at all times and avoid dwelling to prevent any “flats” forming
- At this stage you can also use the Dry Sisal Mop with Cutting Compound to remove any deep scratches. Load the mop with compound by spinning against the bar – the compound bar will melt and coat the mop. Work the loaded mop evenly over the surface.
- Next, fit the Maroon RODA NyMop firmly onto the mandrel and again work over the surface evenly.
- Finally, fit the Green RODA NyMop onto the bench grinder and once more work evenly across the surface until you achieve a smooth sateen finish.
-
Final Finish and Polishing
- For the final finish and high-gloss polish we recommend using Polishing Mops in conjunction with the appropriate Compound.
- Start by fitting the White Stitched Mop firmly onto the mandrel. Load the mop with Cutting OR Polishing Compound depending on your desired effect (Never mix compounds) by spinning against the bar – the compound will melt and coat the mop. Work the mop evenly over the surface and keep moving at all times.
- Next, use the Loosefold G Mop with Polishing Compound. Load the mop with compound and work evenly across the surface.
- Finally, use the Loosefold WDR Mop with Polishing Compound to achieve the professional mirror-like finish. Once more load with compound and work evenly across the surface.
- We suggest using Vienna Lime or Solvent Cleaner to remove any residual polishing haze between stages and at the end of the process. (Available in our online store)
