How to use the Jewellery Polishing Kit:
Note that this is a polishing kit, so any surface preparation to create a satisfactorily smooth surface should be achieved before beginning the polishing process.
-
Polishing Larger Items/Areas
- Mount the Tapered Mandrel into your rotary tool.
- Start by fitting the White Stitched Mop firmly onto the mandrel. Load the mop with Cutting Compound by spinning against the bar – the compound bar will melt and coat the mop. Work the loaded mop evenly over the surface – make sure to always keep moving and avoid dwelling to prevent “flats” forming.
- Next, fit the Loosefold G Mop firmly onto the mandrel and load with either Cutting OR Polishing Compound depending on the desired effect and work evenly across the surface (Never mix compounds)
- Finally, mount the soft Loosefold WDR mop onto the mandrel and load with Polishing Compound. Once more, work evenly over the surface until you achieve a professional, bright finish.
- We suggest using Vienna Lime or Solvent Cleaner to remove any residual polishing haze at the end of the process (Available in our online store).
-
Polishing Detailed Items/Areas
- Start by mounting a clean Medium Felt Wheel into your Dremel-style tool.
- Load the Mounted Felt with Cutting Compound by spinning against the compound bar – the compound will melt and coat the wheel. Work the loaded wheel over the surface – keep moving at all times and avoid dwelling in order to prevent any “flats” forming.
- Once you’re satisfied with the smoothness of your surface, mount a Soft Felt Wheel into your tool. This time load the wheel with Polishing Compound and work evenly across the surface to achieve a bright, reflective finish.
- We suggest using Vienna Lime or Solvent Cleaner to remove any residual polishing haze at the end of the process (Available in our online store).
-
Polishing Inside Rings (or Bores / Holes)
- Mount the Tapered Mandrel into your rotary tool.
- Fit a Mounted Ring Felt firmly onto the mandrel and load with Cutting Compound by spinning against the compound bar – the compound will melt and coat the ring felt. Place the ring onto the ring felt and gently apply pressure.
- Once you’re satisfied with the smoothness of the ring, mount a CLEAN Mounted Ring Felt onto the mandrel and load with Polishing Compound (Never mix compounds). Once more, place the ring onto the ring felt and gently apply pressure until you achieve a satisfactory shine.
- We suggest using Vienna Lime or Solvent Cleaner to remove any residual polishing haze at the end of the process (Available in our online store).
