Precision Detailing with Sunburst Knife-Edge Discs
The Dedeco Sunburst TC Knife-Edge disc is designed for applications where access and precision are more important than surface coverage.
While standard radial discs are effective on flat or open surfaces, the knife-edge profile allows the abrasive to reach into narrow channels, internal corners and detailed features that would otherwise be difficult to finish effectively.
The tapered “V” profile focuses the cutting action at the tip of the bristles, providing controlled, targeted contact during cleaning and polishing.
Why Choose the Knife-Edge Profile?
Deep Access
Reaches into grooves, engravings and tight recesses where flat discs cannot maintain contact.
Detail Preservation
Allows precise cleaning and finishing without rounding off sharp edges or removing fine detail.
Controlled Action
The TC (curved) bristles provide a flexible, cushioned contact, helping maintain stability on intricate surfaces.
Typical Applications
Jewellery & Precious Metals
- Cleaning inside prong settings
- Finishing filigree and intricate detailing
- Accessing recessed areas without damaging edges
Watchmaking & Fine Engineering
- Cleaning between lugs and internal features
- Finishing small, detailed components
Dental & Precision Work
- Cleaning complex moulds and instruments
- Working in confined geometries
Model Making & Restoration
- Reaching tight corners and detailed surfaces
- Cleaning textured or layered materials
Compare the 7/8″ Range
Knife-edge discs excel in narrow details and recessed areas, while other 7/8″ formats offer broader surface coverage or faster cutting.
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| Standard discs | General cleaning, blending and polishing |
| Dual discs | Faster cutting and heavier deburring |
| Knife-edge discs | Grooves, prongs and tight detail areas |
| 4-ply mounted sets | Ready-to-use stacked setup with mandrel |
| Assortment kit | Trying the full grit range in one set |

Mounting & Compatibility
- Arbor hole: 1.6mm
- Recommended mandrel: MM503 screw-top mandrel (2.35mm (3/32″) or 3mm shank options)
- Supplied as unmounted discs
- Can be stacked in small quantities for wider detail access
Important:
Do not use with MM304 mandrels – the 3mm screw is too large for these discs.
Operating Guidelines
Recommended Speed:
3,000 – 18,000 RPM (5,000 RPM for woodworking)
Orientation:
Ensure the bristle curvature follows the direction of rotation.
Technique:
Use light pressure and allow the edge of the bristles to “flick” against the surface. The knife-edge profile works best with controlled, targeted contact rather than sustained pressure.
Complete Your Finishing Process
Finishing is a multi-stage process. To get the best results from your Knife-Edge discs, consider these workflow essentials.
The Right Mounting
These discs feature a 1.6mm centre hole for use with the MM503 screw-top mandrel.
While the knife-edge profile is tapered, multiple discs can still be stacked together. Many users stack 2 – 3 Knife-Edge discs to create a wider precision brush for cleaning deeper grooves and detailed channels.

The Next Step
After detail work is complete, many users transition to standard 7/8″ Sunburst TC radial discs for broader blending, surface refinement and polishing.

Need More Aggressive Cutting?
For heavy fire-scale, oxidation or rapid material removal, begin with 7/8″ Sunburst TC Dual Discs before progressing to Knife-Edge discs for detail refinement.
