Loosefold mops have no stitching, so they are generally flexible and soft making them ideal for final stage polishing with low cut compound i.e Rouge, FF9, 309BX etc. There are variety of fabrics available for loosefold mops, your selection depends on what material you are working on.
WFC – Very hard. Fast cutting polishing mop. Good for making rigid abrasive scurfs which are used with glue and sateen compound.
Bronco – Hard (yellow) Fast cutting mop where more flexibility is required. Used for cutting but also good as a finishing mop.
B – Medium/Hard. Good cutting mop for non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and brass. Makes a good scurf – more flexible than 6G, especially in narrower sizes.
G – Most popular Medium, general purpose finishing mop with finishing compounds. Good for all metal types.
WDR – Soft. A raised one-sided lint finish mop, excellent for finishing aluminium and steels. Brush free finish if used at correct peripheral speed. Most popular
WHR – Soft Swansdown. An all-round finishing mop for all metals. Slightly softer than WDR.
Reflex – Soft rougeing mop for finishing gold and especially silver – no rouge burn into silver.
Loosefold mops are normally used with finishing compounds such as Rouge, Menzerna, Wax 16, Sunblue, FF9, 309BX. A WDR mop can be used with Vienna Lime for the final clean up of aluminium, steel etc. Smaller diameter mops can be used with a taper on a drill, air tool etc. They are commonly used on a polishing motor.
