Specialist UK-Manufactured RODA Felt Profiles
RODA Mounted Shaped Felts provide specialist contact profiles for polishing and lapping component features that are difficult to follow with conventional cylindrical bobs, pointed cones or rounded bullnose tools.
The curated standard range contains 28 defined combinations across seven RODA shape-code families. Each variation is permanently mounted on either a 3mm or 6mm metal shank and supplied as a pack of 10 matching tools. No separate mandrel is required.
The listed variations represent practical online purchasing options rather than the full extent of Moleroda’s manufacturing capability. Where an established process requires a different profile, dimension, shank arrangement or felt specification, a bespoke option can be explored separately.
These mounted felts are non-abrasive compound carriers. They are intended exclusively for use with a compatible polishing, cutting or lapping compound. The compound provides the abrasive action, while the selected felt shape controls access, contact area and support.
For more background on this relationship, read why felt is ideal for polishing engineered parts.
Choose a Specialist Felt Shape
The initial M identifies this mounted shaped felt range. The following letter identifies the RODA shape family. MR and MS are separate Tree profiles with different proportions, so retain their code letters when choosing or reordering.
| Code | Shape Family | Contact Profile and Typical Access |
|---|---|---|
| MG | Pointed Cylinder | A supported cylindrical body narrowing towards the end for side contact, defined profiles and more localised polishing |
| MJ | Rounded Arch | A broad rounded profile for curved channels, radii and blended transitions |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | All-round curved contact for concave surfaces, cavities, internal radii and rounded features |
| MN | Drop | A rounded body narrowing towards one end for contoured recesses, shaped transitions and progressively changing contact |
| MQ | Trapeze | Angled side and edge contact for shoulders, lips, profile transitions and accessible undercut features |
| MR | Tree | A tapered Tree profile for changing radii, contoured walls and transitions between narrow and broader contact |
| MS | Tree | An alternative Tree profile with different proportions; select it by its code and exact felt dimensions |
Available Sizes and Shank Diameters
Each available combination supplies a pack of 10 matching mounted felts.
Where two face measurements are supplied, they are separated by a slash and followed by the felt length. Sphere sizes show the nominal felt diameter. All felt dimensions exclude the metal shank.
| Code | Shape | Felt Size | Shank |
|---|---|---|---|
| MG | Pointed Cylinder | 5 x 12mm | 3mm |
| MG | Pointed Cylinder | 7 x 12mm | 3mm |
| MG | Pointed Cylinder | 12.5 x 24mm | 6mm |
| MJ | Rounded Arch | 7 x 16mm | 3mm |
| MJ | Rounded Arch | 12 x 19mm | 6mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 6mm diameter | 3mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 8mm diameter | 3mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 10mm diameter | 3mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 12mm diameter | 3mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 10mm diameter | 6mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 15mm diameter | 6mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 20mm diameter | 6mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 25mm diameter | 6mm |
| ML | Sphere / Ball | 30mm diameter | 6mm |
| MN | Drop | 8 x 12mm | 3mm |
| MN | Drop | 10 x 10mm | 3mm |
| MN | Drop | 19 x 19mm | 6mm |
| MQ | Trapeze | 9 / 6 x 15mm | 3mm |
| MQ | Trapeze | 15 / 10 x 15mm | 3mm |
| MQ | Trapeze | 20 / 12 x 18mm | 3mm |
| MQ | Trapeze | 25 / 15 x 25mm | 6mm |
| MQ | Trapeze | 30 / 22 x 25mm | 6mm |
| MR | Tree | 11.5 / 4 x 17.5mm | 3mm |
| MR | Tree | 20 x 25mm | 3mm |
| MR | Tree | 20 x 30mm | 6mm |
| MS | Tree | 6 x 12mm | 3mm |
| MS | Tree | 10 x 15mm | 3mm |
| MS | Tree | 10 x 15mm | 6mm |
The standard range is intentionally curated. Where several profiles can reach the same feature, choose the option that provides useful contact without obscuring, catching or rounding an edge that must remain defined.
3mm and 6mm Shank Compatibility
Every tool is permanently mounted on the shank stated for its exact variation. No separate mandrel is required.
- 3mm shanks: Use with compatible micromotors, rotary tools, pendant-motor handpieces or pencil grinders fitted with a matching 3mm collet or chuck
- 6mm shanks: Use with compatible drills, die grinders, straight grinders or larger rotary equipment fitted with a matching 6mm holder
- Machine type alone does not guarantee compatibility; check the actual chuck or collet capacity before ordering
- A fixed 2.35mm, 3mm or 6mm collet accepts only the corresponding shank diameter
- Secure the metal shank correctly and never clamp the felt body
If your equipment uses a 2.35mm (3/32″) holder, consider the RODA Mounted Dental Felts & 17-Piece Shape Kit or a compatible option from the Mounted Felt Bobs, Cones & Bullnose range.
Use with Polishing, Cutting and Lapping Compounds
A compatible compound is required.
These mounted felts contain no abrasive grain and are not designed to cut or polish on their own.
The selected compound determines the abrasive action and achievable finish. The felt supports and carries that compound while its specialist shape controls how it is presented to the component.
- Select the compound according to the workpiece material, starting condition and required finish
- Prepare the surface adequately before attempting the final polishing stage
- Apply a controlled amount of compound and replenish it as required
- Use light pressure and keep the felt moving to reduce unnecessary heat build-up
- Use a separate felt for each compound type or abrasive grade to prevent cross-contamination
- Test the complete process on a representative area before treating the finished component
RODA Felt and Bespoke UK Manufacture
Moleroda selects the standard felt specification for each listed size and profile as part of the manufacturing process. Felt density is therefore not presented as a separate online variation or an additional choice customers must make.
Because RODA Felt tools are manufactured by Moleroda in the UK, non-standard profiles, dimensions, shank arrangements and felt specifications can be explored for established polishing processes. These are bespoke manufacturing enquiries rather than selectable variations on this page.
For general background on how felt specification can affect contact, support and shape retention, read the guide to choosing the right felt grade and density.

| Mounted Shaped Felts | You need larger specialist coded profiles on 3mm or 6mm shanks, supplied as packs of 10 matching tools. |
Need a different contact or mounting format?
Choose Mounted Felt Wheels for flatter edge and face contact, or consider Unmounted Felt Rollers and Unmounted Conical & Bullnose Felts for larger sizes and separately mounted configurations.
Operating Guidance
- Inspect the felt and shank before use. Do not use a tool that is damaged, loose or running out of true.
- Secure the correct shank diameter in a compatible chuck or collet; do not clamp the felt body.
- Use a speed validated for the selected felt size, shape, machine, holding system, compound and workpiece. Start at a low speed and increase only where the process has been proven safe.
- Apply light, controlled pressure and keep the felt moving. Excessive pressure can generate heat, distort the contact profile and shorten tool life.
- Use a separate felt for each compound type or abrasive grade.
- Wear suitable eye protection and use guarding, extraction and other controls appropriate to the machine, compound and workpiece material.
